Edward Snowden granted temporary asylum in Russia, leaves airport

Edward Snowden’s legal representative announced today that Russian authorities have granted the NSA whistleblower temporary asylum. Anatoly Kucherena’s announcement was confirmed by Russia’s Federal Migration service.

The Herald Sun (Australia) published a photo thought to show Snowden preparing to leave the airport by car.  Snowden left the airport around 15.30 Moscow time (11.30 GMT), about 30 minutes before the announcement of his asylum status. For obvious security reasons, his destination was not disclosed.
